Tobacco production in the EU is concentrated in a few Member States and, even within those countries, into a few regions. Taking into account the very low number of tobacco farms in some countries and the fact that tobacco production is not used as a sampling criterion for the selection of the farms, the FADN sample is very limited in the less important tobacco producing countries. In these cases it is not possible to carry out reliable analyses. In addition to that, as the FADN only covers farms above acertain economic threshold, many of the very small tobacco farms may not be represented in the FADN field of observation, which leads to a certain bias in the results.
